London-Scotland services of the Scottish Motor Traction Co., Ltd., and Majestic Saloon Coaches, Ltd.. will come up for hearing at Edinburgh on September 25th, with objections by the L.M.S. and L.N.E. railway companies. At the Hamilton sitting the Lanarkshire Traction Co., Ltd., will meet objections to its local services from the railways the Glasgow General Omnibus Co., Ltd., and others. Gazette No. 22 of • the Southern Scotland area lists some miscellaneous licence grants.

A feature, of Northern Area Gazette No. 12 is the statement that at the Redcar and Newcastle sittings (September 19th and 21st) the Commissioners will reconsider their decisions in respect of certain licence applications as given at previous public sittings: This gazette lists a large number of licence grants to Ribble Motor Services, Ltd., and other concerns.

Gazette No. 21 for the Yorkshire Area still makes no announcement as regards the next public sittings that are to be held. It lists a considerable number of fresh applications and announces decisions in respect of a few licences... Robert Edwards and Co., Ltd., '• of

has been refused seven applications in respect of express services from SoWerby Bridge. There are also some withdrawals of applications by wellknown concerns, including • some in Which the railways are interested. This gazette announces general condition& in respect of excursions and tours.

A large trintibee of new applications received is listed in Gazette No. 20. of the North-Western Area. At the Liverpool sitting, commencing next Tuesday, thetime' will be mainly occupied' by applleations made. by Crosville Motor Services, • Ltd., in respect of express. services, excursions and tours, and by St. Helens Corporation in respect of stage-carriage routes. The : Great Western and" L.M.S. railways arc. objecting to some of the Crosville applications.

as having . been granted.: The Eastern Countis -Omnibus: CO'.; -Ltd., receives backings in respect, of a. group of excursions; as-well as for .a large number of stage-carriage' routes in the Cambridge area:' The refusal of the AylesburyWindsor stage-carriage application of Premier Line, Ltd., is announced in this issue, as well as that of an excursion application • made by the . Lincolnshire

Road Car .Co., Ltd: •

Gazette .No.22 of the. Eastern Area is almost 'entirely 'taken up by: fresh applidations. • It also gives a list of • the applications that -are next to be heard, although the dates of hearing cannot at present be announced. A few licence grants are listed,' including three backings for tours by. the Peterborough. Electric Traction Cu., •Ltd.

The .21st Gazette of the South Wales Commissioners indicates that the Carmarthen sitting will be largely concerned with stage-carriage applications of • the Western •Welsh Omnibus Co., Ltd.,. as well as a number of aPplications for tours 'and .stage routes by smaller loeal operators, some of these being objected to by the Western Welsh company. A few decisions are announced.

Fresh applications occupy 25 pages of Southern Area Gazette No. 25. The Commissioners have allotted nearly 100 applications to be considered on the first day of their Bournemouth sitting (today, September 15th), as well as large numbers for Wednesday and Thursday. Some reference to the importance of this sitting was made in our issue for last week. Elliott Bros. (Bournemouth), Ltd., will be a prominent applicant. A short list of licences granted

appears . in the latest, gazette, Keith and Boyle, Ltd., the Southern National Omnibus Co., Ltd., and Highways, Ltd., figuring therein, the last-named in respect of its London-Windsor service which is licensed for an hourly fro quency only.

According to Gazette No. 26, next week's Westminster sitting. of the South-Eastern area will be marked by considerable opposition, on Tuesday to miscellaneous . excursion appliCations, and on subsequent days by applications in respect of regular stage and express lines which compete strongly with the Southern Railway, L.G.O.C. and Tilling interests. United Service Transport, Ltd., will have to face powerful objections by companies in these • gronps when its coach services come up for consideration on September •23rd, and this company has stage-carriage services on long-distance routes' Which naturally affect all the local 'operators.

The' latest gazette lists many licence grants, including a number for Ellidtt Bros. (Bournemouth), Ltd.

Applications for express services and for -excursions and tours will occupy the Metropolitan Commissioner throughout the week commencing September 21st. The L.G.O. Co., Ltd., Green Line Coaches, Ltd., and the railways, also some of the Tilling companies, are objecting to many of these applications, and the usual contentions and counterarguments may be expected. Gazette No. 26 contains an extensive list, with full details, of licences granted, the East Surrey Traction Co., Ltd., Maidstone and District Motor Services, Ltd., East Kent Road Car Co., Ltd., and Autocar Services, Ltd., figuring prominently.
