CONTAINER HAULAGE firm Elite Transport Services has bought 23 top-spec MercedesBenz Actros tractor units to complement its existing 161-vehicle mixed fleet.
The Manchester-based business bought the trucks on a full four-year repair and maintenance contract, after an extensive trial period to assess fuel consumption.
Alan Wells, Elite Transport general manager, tells CM: "The trucks returned an average of 9mpg, which is slightly more than the late eights we were getting with the older vehicles. But with such tight margins, even the smallest improvement in fuel consumption can make a massive difference.
