DEMONSTRATIONS of the range of Magirus vehicles, which are to be marketed by Magirus-Deuti. (Concessionaires) Ltd., were given on Monday at the Brands Hatch racing circuit in Kent. Many or those attending the demonstrations were goods-vehicle operators, and as well as going round the circuit as a passenger it was also possible to drive the many types of vehicle provided for this purpose.

The various models of Magirus that will be available in the UK were detailed exclusively in The Commercial Motor September 24, and featured prominently were versions of the Magirus 2351) 22 six-wheeler, a road lest report of which appeared in last week's issue. As well as tractive-unit versions of the 23513 22, there were rigids with different types of body, six-wheel normal-control tippers and dumpers and the same design of chassis carrying concrete mixer agitator Units. Forward-control chassis having the earlier-design Magirtis cab were shown and these will be the type initially imported into the UK. hut there was also a four-wheeler with the latest-design nonsleeper flat-fronted cab which was introduced for some chassis at the Frankfurt Show.

-A most interesting feature of the demonstration at the Brands Hatch circuit was that it provided the chance to compare the handling characteristics and cab design of the old-type normal-control and the forward-control models with the latest cab as fitted to the vehicle already tested. Although the standard of fitting and the external appearance in the new cab are better, the other two could not be criticized as they offered a similar degree of comfort, and handling was no different.

• The fact that the vehicles were not laden and a smooth-surfaced car-racing circuit was used did not detract from the usefulness of the tests to any real degree. All types were commendably quiet in the

cah, and whilst this can be the result of good insulation it was also noticeable that the noise level from vehicles travelling at fairly high speed on the track was not excessive from the spectators' point of view, Against a certain amount of .stiffness in the steering-column gear change on the six-wheeler subjected to a full road test, the vehicles with this layout at Brands Hatch were quite easy to change gear on and art excellent change was given by the floor-mounted lever on the normalcontrol model driven.

In addition to the vehicles available for test runs, a static display was featured which included an interesting drop-1'1'mile semi-trailer coupled to a Magirus 1501) 14 FS tractive unit. The semi-trailer was made by Weinman of Germany and had the usual twin-oscillating axle-running gear. But instead of the axles having to be removed for unloading purposes. the rear end of the platform could he lowered to the ground and the axles raised and swung out of the way to the sides. Ramps hinged at the rear end of the platform provided the final bridge from the platform for the load.

It is understood that the Blundell Group (parent company of MagirusDeutz (Concessionaires) Ltd.) plans to import this model of semi-trailer into the UK. Capacity is -18 tons, deck length is 18 ft. and the price is expected to he less than €2,000. There is the possibility also that the semi-trailers will be produced by BI Lindens in about three months' time.

Swedish Study : The Skelko Ball Bearing Co. Ltd.. Luton, has sent four of the company's senior shop stewards on a six-day trip to the SKF headquarters at Gothenburg to give them the opportunity of studying at first hand Swedish working methods and practices.

French Accident Statistics: Recent French statistics regarding road 'accidents in rural areas and localities with less than 10.000 inhabitants underline the very small number of commercial vehicles involved.
