SAIFA, the commercial subsidiary of SLF, the Swedish road haulage association, has recently embarked upon an ambitious programme of hulk buying on behalf of SLF members. The aim is to reduce prices, and purchases cover such items as tyres. tubes and spare parts. Ten tyre service stations are also operated for SLF members, "Hie latest venture by SAIFA is the establishment of its own manufacturing plant in Kilafors to build trailers and semi-trailers. This project has been very successful and now caters for 15 per cent of the annual demand of SLF membership for this class of vehicle. Standardization of -parts and the large scale of the enterprise has resulted in lower prices for trailers, and SA1FA also offers hauliers credit and hire-purchase facilities for the buying of trailers.
Other important activities of this organization are advice on costing and hook-keeping systems, investment planning, insurance consultancy. and advice on the layout and construction of road haulage terminals.
