MORE LEGISLATION COMING?

Statements made when a recent deputation from the C.M.U.A. and other organizations met the Minister of Transport left the impression that more legislation was coming, said Mr. J. L. Kinder, C.M.U.A. national organizer, to a gathering of members, at Wolverhampton last week.

The C.M.U.A. would fight for the A and B-licence-holder in any scheme of transport co-ordination. Unfortunately. only 10 per cent, of the operators thought it worth while to belong to an organization. Road transport was precluded from taking strike action as a protest at the treatment it received, because the associations were so poorly supported.

There was a great amount of work to be done in any case involving an application for increased tonnage, said Mr. J. Foley Egginton, C.M.U.A. West Midland Division solicitor, in an address on licensing. When applications failed, it was frequently not because evidence was non-existent, but because it was impossible to produce.

Contract A licences were often suggested as a means for meeting increased tonnage applications. There were many arguments against them, and, unless the applicant had the whole position in mind, he was liable to be trapped into accepting something that did not satisfy his need.
