4 COMPRESSED-AIR plant which _,LA. has several applications is being marketed by the Equipment and Engineering Co., Ltd., of 2 and 3, Norfolk Street, Strand, London, W.C,2, the well-known maker of garage equipment and fittings for motor vehicles. The Luchard system consists of a central compressor which is capable of feeding, at 1,800 lb. per sq. in., any number of portable air cylinders. The Luchard *stem is claimed to provide absolutely pure and cold air, there being no need for trailing flex, whilst the compressor, itself cau be driven a an existing pulley. shaft.
These plants compress in three or four stages, each stage being watercooled. They are fitted with an efficient. MI-separating device, which prevents •damage to •rubber tubes, etc. Luchard plants are in three sizes. •
The special garage set comprises a cylinder -and transport trolley, an adjustable reducing valve with gauges, a pipe line and junction. These cylinders
c40 are claimed to inflate at one charge, from flat, approximately 12 to 14 large tyres, or 60 to 80 average-size tyres.
Besides its primary object of providing air for tyre inflation, the Luchard high-pressure system can be adapted for several subsidiary uses. 1 c. can, for instance, be employed in connection with spray. painting. The reducing valve on the air cylinder can be adjusted so as to give the required pressure, and MI or water vapour is prevented from mixing with the paint spray. No filter is necessary and the spray gun is connected, through a flexible tube, directly to the outlet end of the reducing valve. The system may also be employed to maintain efficient air pressure on reserve oil tanks so as to drive the oil through underground pumps to those situated at the roadside. These useful appliances are utilized hr about 30 corporations, as well as by many private transport undertakings.
