Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

CUMMINS VIDEO • Cummins has produced a new training video, aimed at helping drivers to get the best economy out of vehicles fitted with Cummins engines. The Advanced Driving Video is an interactive system, with the viewer (or trainee) being given a keyboard through which to answer questions posed by the presentation. The program automatically logs the number of correct answers given by the trainee, and as the whole operation is tied in with the new Cummins Professional Drivers' Award, completion of the practical side of the course qualifies the driver for membership of the scheme. The video can be hired on a daily or weekly basis from Cummins Engine Co, 46-50 Coombe Road, New Malden, Surrey KT3 4QL, phone 01-949 6171.

CRANE DRIVERS

• A new guidance note on the training of crane drivers and slingers has been published by the Health and Safety Executive. Accidents

due to cranes and slinging operations account for a major proportion of lifting accidents. Analysis of these accidents has shown that the majority are due to the lack of training of crane drivers and slingers.

This guidance note gives practical advice on the basic principles of training including the selection of suitable trainees, adequate basic training and the need to train employees in the use of the particular cranes or lifting gear which they will use. Employers are advised only to employ crane drivers and slingers who have been trained to an adequate standard and who have shown themselves to be competent.

Guidance Note GS 39, Training of crane drivers and stingers, is available from HM Stationery Office or booksellers, price £2.25.
