Krupp Group member company Gesellschaft fur Systemtechnik aims to have an amphibious truck in production by the end of the year. It is intended primarily for combating oil spills, but could be useful for military and survey work.
The vehicle will be 8.1m long, 3.5m wide, with an unladen weight of 11 tonnes and three tonnes carrying capacity. Its main power unit will be a water-cooled, turbocharged eight-cylinder diesel developing 220kW (294hp). For travel on land it will be equipped with tracks — on water it will use a hydrojet drive.
The vehicle was developed with the aid of West German Ministry for Research and Technology funding.
