• A Scottish coach company perating a new deregulated limited stop service has just taken delivery of eight new buses and two new coaches.
Hutchisons Coaches (Overtown) will run the service from Wishaw, Lanarkshire to Glasgow. The coaches bought for the job are Hestair-Duple 425 integrals with Cummins L10 engines and ZF manual gearboxes.
Each has 61 fixed seats and tinted, double-glazed windows. Managing director Stuart Anderson says, "We were looking for a vehicle with high capacity, comfort and an eyecatching look."
The buses are 12m long Dominants based on Volvo BlOM GL chassis. The company already runs 20 Dominants, the new models are the first maximum length examples and seat 55 passengers with room for up to 23 standing. The BlOM GL chassis have Volvo 276bhp turbocharged 9.6 litre engines and ZF fully automatic gearbox. A low ratio rear axle is fitted.
The whole specification, and the use of a conductor to collect fares, gives Hutchinsons faster-thanaverage journey times on its local bus services.
