Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• By the end of 1986 Eaton will have over 50 of its Semi-Automated Mechanical Transmissions (SAMT) undergoing fleet evaluation trials in Europe with 15 of these units fitted in trucks running on British roads.

SAMTs have already been installed in MAN, Leyland, ERF, Vat, Seddon Atkinson, Foden and Sisu trucks, and full production of the SAMT, which is based on Easton's existing twin-splitter gearbox, is expected to begin in September 1987.

Eaton says that judging by the positive reaction to its SAMT, the introduction of its fully automatic gearbox could well be put back beyond its current scheduled date of 1989.
