Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• Hauliers need to pester police forces until they take the problem of truck crime seriously, according to a truck theft specialist from Greater Manchester police.

Speaking at the Road Haulage Association's Spring Convention, Detective Constable Paddy Kerr says that while some forces may have previously seen truck crime as purely motor vehicle theft it has now become serious and organised crime.

He says: "Police forces do have limited resources and truck crime is in competition with many other forms of crime for this. However, operators and the press can raise awareness of the severity that it has upon the industry."

Chris Kelly, chairman of West Midland Scania dealer Keltruck agrees. He claims that it was an angry attack by him and West Midlands hauliers on the local police force after their alleged failure to tackle a wave of truck crime which led to it taking such crimes more seriously. Last year the force implemented Operation Coppergold, a dedicated team of police officers set up to tackle the problem, which has resulted in a fail of 9% in truck crime in the region.

"If there are other hauliers in the country who are receiving the same negative response I would fully applaud them to stand up and make their case known," says Kelly.
