Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• Hundreds of older HGV drivers with short-term medical licences will receive a refund of up to £90 after the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency discovered drivers applying to renew their licence were unnecessarily charged.

Around 200,000 driving licence holders will be reimbursed £4.5m for being wrongly charged for renewing their short-term medical licence. The undetected legal anomaly has affected truck and bus drivers who are 45 or over since 1998, and car drivers who are 70 or older since 1997. It is possible some drivers paid a renewal fee up to three times during the period. The mistake was discovered recently during an audit by the National Audit Office, The DVLA will automatically refund the cost of the licence which ranges from £26 to £32.50 for truck licences, depending on when they were bought, by the end of June.

Truck drivers seeking to renew their shortterm medical driving licence will now be exempt from any renewal charge.
