be launched in the West Midlands by the beginning of September.

The five-mile route along the A34 between Junction 4 of the M42 and the boundary between Solihull and Birmingham is the first of three pilot routes in the area. The other two routes

are along the rest of A34 into Red routes: Trial oi Birmingham and along the

A449 from Junction 2 of the M54 to Wolverhampton.

Piers Cockcroft, Solihull Council's principal engineer, says: '1 would expect in 12 months' time you will see work starting on other routes as well, I hope the lessons we learn over the next few months will be immediately applicable."

The cost of the initial five-mile stretch, which includes closing some right turns as well as building delivery areas, is around £500,000.

Journey times are expected to fall by around 10% but truck and car drivers will both face £40 fines for breaking restrictions on stopping.
