used vehicles in its own right. Last year MAN sold 2,200 vehicles through its Select programme; this year the total is expected to reach 2,700.
"We have a wide customer base for our used trucks and sell groups of five and six into fleets and in ones and twos to smaller operators," says Lennick. "Our stock situation on Evolution and late F2000 6x2 models is very low throughout the country. The market for 4x2s picked up before Christmas but over the past couple of months the move has been back again to 44 tonnes. We have always been very strong in the new 6x2 tractor market but even we can't satisfy the demand in the used sector so we're converting some of our used 4x2 tractive units with a second steer axle into 6x2s.
"As far as the high-horsepower Roadhaus models are concerned we haven't any in stock at Swindon at all. They are very much in demand and fetch a premium—a two-yearold 26.464 Roadhaus is selling for around £36,000. You can get the Roadhaus cab on the 414 as well, and as a 6x2 of the same age it will fetch about £33,000 and only slightly less with a long-haul sleeper cab. A 1999 19.464 4x2 is selling at £30,000 while a 19.414 with long-haul sleeper is retailing at £26,000."
