Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

QCould you define cabotage, there seems to be some confusion over the issue. Also is it legal if a foreign vehicle is banned for some reason by the traffic examiner, to tranship onto another foreign vehicle or part of the prohibited vehicle for delivery in the UK?

GSA, Wetherby

ACabotage is the delivery of a consignment from start to finish in one country by a vehicle registered, owned, and normally kept in another country. The European Parliament has to come to an agreement on the limited allowances of cabotage before 1993. You, as a haulier, cannot go to Paris, pick up a load and deliver it to Lyons; but there is nothing to stop you taking a load from London to Lyons and picking one up for return to the UK.

With regard to your second question, if a foreign vehicle is

prohibited to travel in the UK then the reason for the prohibition determines the future of the load. If the prohibition is for mechanical defect then transhipment to complete the journey is legal. If the prohibition is concerning the load then its fate lies in the hands of the prohibitor.
