• One of Scotland's oldest and best-known private bus operators is up for sale, amid rumours that the owners have already disposed of the garage site, and will cease operations within weeks. The move threatens 69 jobs.
Graham's Bus Service, which runs a fleet of 30 buses around Paisley, confirms that it is looking for a buyer for the 60-year-old business, but directors Andrew Graham and his son Andrew Jr deny that the company is to close so soon, or that redundancies are imminent.
A local TGWU representative alleges the directors are talking to four prospective buyers and that a buy-out offer from its workers has been turned down. He has hit out at the secrecy surrounding the sale: "Graham has said that the men will go when the buses go, but that's not good enough," he says.
Possi]le buyers could include Strathclyde Buses, McGill's of Barrhead and Magicbus.
