• Hays' distribution profits rose by 20% to 213.5 million in the six months up to 31 December 1989 thanks to a furniture delivery deal with Marks & Spencer, and increased chemical distribution work. The group, which reported pre-tax profits of 221.3m, a 28% increase on the previous year, may further expand by acquiring small distribution and business sector companies during the year.
