Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

TAYSIDE Regional Transport Committee has unanimously decided to seek an early fares increase for city buses. This is to recover as much as possible of a projected deficit of £1.6m in the financial year beginning April 1.

Neil Townend, director of transport,is to prepare a report for early submission to the transport committee, who were told that a nationally agreed wage award for platform staff would cost £700,000 in a full year, there would be a shortfall of £290,000 in the revenue estimates, and increases on other costs were expected to be around £700,000.

A city bus tour, which has operated during the holiday fortnight for many years carried 2898 passengers last year, when it was necessary to operate up to 12 journeys a day.

Mr Townend thought there would be sufficient demand to warrant operation this year at weekend and public holidays from early May to the end of August, with daily operation throughout the school summer holidays.

Bus fares are to go up, the adult fare to '75p from 60p, the child to 40p (30p) and the concession to 50p (30p). Application is to be made to the traffic commissioners, to cover the period of operation and for the increased fares.
