I have been advised that employing an automatic gearbox with a torque convertor would give a much better transmission life between overhauls, but I would prefer to fit a long-life clutch. Are wet-type clutches still available and, if so, would a clutch of this type have wear advantages?
AA wet-type clutch in current production
is made by the Lipe-Rollvvay Corporation, 806 Emerson Avenue, Syracuse, New York 13201. In this case oil is sprayed on to the plate assembly under pressure provided by a pump. In addition to a long-wearing life the clutch is said to give a cushion drive. Although no application in this country has been reported. at least one vehicle manufacturer has commented favourable on the potential of the clutch.
