• For its third national conference, at the Grand Hotel, Birmingham on May 3-4, the Institute of Road Transport Engineers has chosen the theme: "The artic is versatile but poses many engineering problems".
Delegates will assemble for lunch on May 3, then a closed afternoon session will be followed by a reception at 6.45 p.m. On the following morning (Saturday) the president, Sir William Swallow, will introduce the topic, which will then be illustrated by films. Mr. J. Furness has been invited to give the Ministry of Transport's views on future trends in legislation for such things as plating, axle loading, inspection and testing.
Mr. W. V. Batstone will present a paper on the practical problems of standardization, matching and inspection and after further problems and their solutions have been dealt with by Mr. John DicksonSimpson there will be a discussion period with a panel of experts answering questions.
In the afternoon there will be an exhibition of vehicles and equipment.
