• Study teams are now being established to examine every section—engineering, planning, marketing, labour relations, organization and so on—of the major activities of all the concerns in the new British Leyland Motor Corporation. These groups will then recommend how best the interests may be integrated—a step which Sir Donald Stokes, managing director designate--regards as a matter of "real urgency because our main competitors are growing stronger every day" Sir Donald said his short-term target for the corporation was a sales target of £1,000m annually.
Details of the financial aspects of the merger have been set out in a document for shareholders, which shows for example that among existing directors Sir Donald has a beneficial interest in 20,000 Leyland 5s shares, while Sir George Harriman has a beneficial interest in 57,560 BMC 5s shares.
