• The "timetable" motion to cut short the Committee stage of the Transport Bill was tabled on Wednesday by Mr. Richard Crossman, Leader of the House of Commons, and Mrs. Barbara Castle, Transport Minister. instructing the standing committee to report the Bill to the Commons on or before May 15. The motion was due for debate yesterday.
Other provisions in the motion are that the consideration and third reading of the Bill should be completed in three allocated days and brought to a conclusion at 10 p.m. on the last day. Conservative amendments sought to have the committee stage extended to June 27 and the third reading completed in five days.
