Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

\ DISC brake provided with a liquid "Xcooling circuit is shown in patent No. .0,098. (General Motors Corp., Detroit, iich., U.S.A.) Referring to the drawing, the axle (1) rminates in a flange (2) to which the ater casing is fixed. This carries a set discs (3) interleaving with fixed discs 1 a stationary part.

Cooling fluid flows in through a pipe ) and travels along the space outside sleeve (5) to reach a gear-pump (6). le outflow from this floods the discs id then leaves via a passage (7) and itlet (8). The circuit is completed by external heat-exchanger for dissipating e developed heat.

The actual operation of the discs is so performed hydraulically, pressure ing applied to the right-hand side of annular piston (9).

Radiator Cooling System

A RADIATOR cooling scheme that 1-1. employs two separate fans is shown in patent No. 905,002. (S. Smith and Sons (England) Ltd., Cricklewood Works, London, N.W.2.)

The first fan is belt-driven by the engine and runs continuously in the normal way. The second fan is mounted co-axially with the first, to which it can be coupled by a magnetic clutch.

Energization of the clutch can be manually controlled, or operated by a thermostat to maintain a constant water temperature. Alternatively, the second fan may be electrically driven.

An Improved Dumper

IMPROVEMENTS in the design of light I dumpers form the subject of patent No. 904,283. The chef features are a strengthened frame and higher halfshafts to give a greater ground clearance. ( fhe Standard Motor Co. Ltd., Canley, Coventry.)

The half-shafts, instead of driving the wheels direct, are fitted with a pinion on the end Which engages with a spur gear on the wheel hub. This enables the shafts to be lighter and to span the frame at a higher point. In addition, a sturdy cross-member is positioned across the frame over the shafts.
