Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

IF a Gloucester meat haulier was to

remain in business and serve its substantial number of meat customers it was essential that the company should be on equivalent terms to* the other traders engaged in the same type of haulage, it was said at Bristol on Monday. The firm, Chambers Motors Ltd., of Barnwood Garage, Gloucester, was applying for A licences for nine vehicles.

After hearing the evidence. the Western Licensing Authority, Mr. S. W. Nelson, granted the application subject to the surrender of the existing B licences.

For the applicant, Mr. T. D. Corpe said his client had been faced with competition from other meat hauliers, all of whom had A licences.

Mr. Nelson said if the application was not granted for the nine vehicles the firm would be in a very serious position. He said most of the firm's competitors were operating on A licences and "could make a much better showing than B vehicles".

Mr. Nelson said it was certain that unless the application was granted the firm would have to close down. It was monstrous that vehicles had to return to Gloucester from Avonmouth empty.

Referring to the objection by British Railways the Authority accepted the company's statement that there was no intention by it to abstract goods being carried by rail. An objection from George Read Transport Ltd., was withdrawn.
