A VARIATION of their A licence was granted to PI. F. Wardell (Haulage), Ltd., Lyrnm, Cheshire, at Manchester last week, to enable them to replace a platform lorry of 3 tons unladen by an eight-wheeled tipper.

Mr. C. R. Hodgson, South Wales Licensing Authority, deputizing for the North Western Licensing Authority, was told by Mr. J. A. Dunkerley, for Wardle, that they had 15 vehicles on A licence, and three special A-licence vehicles. The company had Worked for many years for the British Oil and Cake Mills, Ltd., Old Trafford, conveying palm kernel cake in bags from Port Sunlight.

The customers had informed them that because of the labour position and the recent installation of hulk-loading equipment at Port Sunlight, they. now required transport in bulk, which Would call for a tipper. The amount to be carried had increased from 115 tons a week to 200-250 tons.

After evidence was given that, although British Oil and Cake had rail sidings, the tipping points.had not,. Mr. A. W. Balite, for the British Transport Commission, said that they -would withdraw their objection if an undertaking were given that the vehicle Would be used only for this work.

Mr. Dunkeiley said that the change of method was the sole reason for the application, and the vehicle would be fully employed between Port Sunlight and Old Trafford.

SCOTS CHAIRMAN FOR LONG-DISTANCE HAULIERS

AT the first meeting, last week, of the new long-distance hauliers' committee of the Road Haulage Association, Mr. Alexander Scott (Alexander Scott (Contractors), Ltd.. Glasgow) was elected chairman, with Mr. C. J. Palmer (J. Spurting, Ltd., London) as vicechairman.

Mr. Scott, Mr. A. J. Dale, Mr. R. J. Elnies, Mr. R. S. Heaton, Mr. J. T. Price and Mr. F. E. Russett were appointed to the committees rates subcommittee, which, among other things, is examining the possibility of producing a guide to transport costs.

PERU BUYS BRITISH

THREE mobile banks have been

ordered from Smith's Delivery Vehicles, Ltd., by the Peruvian Banco Continental for operation in country districts. The vehicles will he based upon Karrier Bantam chassis.

A purchase agreement has also been signed for an initial order for five Smith's Migros-patfern mobile grocery shops for a new grocery concern in Lima, who are introducing the Swiss Migros distribution system 'in Peru. These vehicles will also incorporate Rootes chassis and will have Frigidaire refrigeration equipment. They will be similar to 69 already shipped to Turkey. Pucrlo Rico and Moscow.
