MR. BRIAN M. WALLWORK has been appointed sales manager of the Theatre Garage, Sunderland, Atkinson distributors for the north of England.
MR. F. A. JACKMAN has been appointed assistant managing director of Carless, Capel and Leonard, Ltd. He joined the company nearly 30 years ago and became a director in 1954.
MR. R. E. Howsmo has become chairman of the Lincoln Sub-area of the Road Haulage Association. The vice-chairmen are MR. R. S. SCOTT, MR. J. P. MAYALL and MR. R. E. BEAL. MR. H. BRAE:1st-1Am is honorary secretary.
MR. GEORGE MCKAY, chief engineer of United Automobile Services, Ltd., has been re-elected chairman of the north-eastern centre of the Automobile Division of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers. The vice-chairman is MR. W. SMITH, and Mr. H. GLEDHILL remains honorary secretary.
MR. F. DEWHURST is to retire from his position as works manager of the London Fire Brigade, but will continue for a year as a full-time technical consultant on certain research projects. He has served the brigade for 22 years. 1-us successor will be MR. P. D. SCOTT, a technical representative of Dennis Bros., Ltd., who has specialized in fire appliances for 10 years.
M. J. W. R. PENROSE has become general sales manager of the home sales organization of the Austin Motor Co., Ltd. MR. E. A. WEBB has been appointed car sales manager, and MR. W. H. HOOFER commercial vehicle sales manager. Mr. Penrose has been home sales manager since 1954, and Mr. Hooper home sales executive for commercial vehicles since 1955.

MR. W. J. WHITELOCK, managing director of Shamrock and Rambler Motor Coaches, Ltd., has been chosen as Mayor-elect of Bournemouth. He has been a member of the council since 1949,
MR. B. A. BANcRoFT has become an area manager of A.C.V. Sales, Ltd., and will operate from Cheltenham, covering certain counties in the company's south-western region, which is under the control Of MR. R. E. W. HOLMES.

MR. D. BESLEY has been appointed manager of the Glasgow branch of Brown Brothers, Ltd., and MR. A. V. REID, manager of the Belfast branch, with MR. T. DAWSON as assistant branch manager. MR. J. C. HARWELL has become assistant manager of the Newcastle upon Tyne branch, and MR. F. A. DUNMORE assistant manager of the national department at the company's head office.
MR. R. B. REEVE, publicity manager of Ransomes Sims and Jefferies, Ltd., has retired after 44 years' service, and is succeeded by MR. D. H. STOCKER, who will co-ordinate publicity, advertising and public relations. MR. R. J. GARNuAm has relinquished his position as public relations officer and is to succeed MR. E. J. BRADLEY as lawn mower sales manager. Mr. Bradley will be retiring on April 30.
OBITUARY
•WE regret to record the deaths of MR. CHARLES S. GRAINGER and MR. JOHN E. DORMAN.
Mr. Grainger was a director of the Olympic Tyre and Rubber Co., Ltd., Melbourne, Australia. He was 64.
Mr. Dorman, who died suddenly last Saturday at the age of 92, was a director of Henry Meadows, Ltd., until his retirement in 1948. He was the son of the founder of W. H. Dorman and Co.
