Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

1 Hauliers are being targeted in a new wave of scams involving guides and directories, according to the Road Haulage Association.

RHA members have been receiving letters from the "1st European City Guide" urging them to sign and return a form in order to guarantee a listing in the guide.

But by signing they are agreeing to place a series of advertisements in the guide at a cost of 1414 apiece. Companies are then charged 243 for a copy of the guide.

Mike Farmer from the RHA's Midland and Western region also warns hauliers to ignore requests for 2365 for the chance to be included in a pan-European fax directory. "All these things tend to look like invoices and people should be on their guard," he adds.

Other scams doing the rounds include a letter from "Major General Maina Shabba" of Nigeria and from "Prince Olawole Daniel", also of Nigeria, requesting details of companies' bank accounts. Although firms are promised that money will be transferred into their accounts, the reality is very different. says Farmer, who explains: "What they do is then squeeze money out of your account.'
