Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• The Vehicle Inspectorate has launched its long-awaited trial scheme, offering brake performance checks before annuals tests (CM 8-14 December 1988). The scheme will initially be available from HGV testing stations at Aberdeen, Edinburgh, Liverpool, Sheffield, Doncaster, Stoke-on

Trent, Kidderminster, Northampton and Ipswich.

All operators and repairers of HGVs, trailers and PSVs will be able to get a system-bysystem brake check, with efficiency calculations and a clear indication of whether the vehicle's brakes would pass the annual test.

The service will cost 2,6 per axle, and will include an inspection of the tyres and a check on load security. If a vehicle is found to be dangerous, the person using it will be required to safely remove it. If the vehicle examiner is not satisfied that the vehicle can be safely removed, emergency repairs may be authorised on the premises.

0 Braking defects are the single most frequent cause of annual test failures. Last year 7.9% of vehicles failed to meet the required parking brake performance; 5.9% failed to meet the service brake standard, and 4.3% had problems with brake components.
