• Robsons Distribution Services has won a 2750,000 contract to act as UK distributor for the peat and compost producer Bord na Mona.
RDS, which has a multipurpose fleet of over 200 vehicles, fought a six-way battle over the three-year contract, which is worth £250,000 a year.
The deal was clinched as Robsons' parent company, Bunzl Transportation Division, was sold for 254 million to a management team led by Allan Binks.
Under the distribution contract Robsons will supply products from Bord na Mona — one of Ireland's biggest exporters — to horticultural outlets in the South-East and West Country. Among the outlets to be supplied are B&C) stores, Home Base, Texas Homecare and other large retailers and garden centres.
CI Robsons has appointed John Brumpton as National network sales manager. He was previously national sales manager at TNT Parcel Offices.
