• Local service competition in Hull is set to shift up a gear with the entry of coach firm Metro into bus operations. Competition is already hot in the town. Kingston-upon-Hull City Transport took over Citylink in March, but continues to do battle with Good News Travel and Rhodes Coaches.
The emergence of Metro Coaches on two local routes with its complement of four Metro City buses promises to be the beginning of a developing expansion programme.
Operations manager Phil Doughty, formerly leading driver at Citylink, claims Metro is introducing links abandoned by KHCT, but there is enough convergence on main roads to constitute a challenge.
