• Andy Baird, the shop steward at the centre of the bitter six-week strike at Kelvin Scottish (CM 1-7 June), is now preparing a workers' buyout.
Baird, who was dismissed from the company, says: "We have had a few meetings already to confirm finance and we will be organising a management team to formulate a bid for the company.
"I would expect that any financial institution would be wary of committing money to a management team which does not have the support of the trade union," he adds.
