Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• From the beginning of October all Foden 4000 Series tractor models will be offered with the option of the latest Perkins Eagle Tx engine. The six-cylinder 12.2-litre Eagle Tx will be available in four power ratings from 224kW (300hp) to 280kW (375hp). It joins Foden's line-up of Caterpillar's 10-litre 3306B and 14-litre 3406B engines; Cummins' L10 and 14-litre Super E; and Gardner's 6LXDT.

Foden says the 300Tx will have an installed peak torque of 1,145Nm (8441bft); the 325Tx 1,532Nm (1,1301bft); the 350Tx 1,640Nm (1,2101bft); and the most powerful 375Tx 1,750Nm (1,2911bft).

The latest Perkins air-to-air charge-cooled Tx engine, which was launched in April (CM 20-26 April), is already fitted in ERF's E12 range of tractors and rigids and Seddon Atkinson's Strato tractor. Leyland Daf is thought to be considering it for the Roadtrain.

The Tx is said to be capable of meeting the stringent US 1991 exhaust emissions and particulates standards. It fea tures Perkins' "fast burn" combustion system with helical ports and bowl-in-piston combustion chambers.

Foden says the Tx will be offered with "the appropriate gearbox for the torque output": probably the nine and 13-speed Fuller Roadranger and Eaton Twin Splitter, and possibly the new ZF Ecosplit. The price of the Tx Eagle engine option is likely to be similar to the Cummins and Cat power units.
