• BRS Midlands has won a 220 million contract to run a fleet of articulated units for newly-formed CMB Packaging.
The deal — the company's biggest to date — means BRS will control the distribution operation from five sites at Arbroath, Braunstone, Westhoughton, Wisbech and Worcester for CMB, which was created by the merger of Metal Box and French company Carnaud.
BRS will operate a core fleet of 36 tractors (mostly Leyland Daf 2500s and 2100s, and Seddon Atkinsons) 107 curtainsided 12m trailers and will employ 80 workers. BRS Freight Management vehicles will be used for peak demands.
Under the five-year agreement, BRS will run all aspects of the distribution network, including warehousing and stock control systems. Overseeing the operation will be Peter Dennis, formerly general manager at BRS Wisbech, who is now based at Braunstone as a national account manager dedicated to CMB.
A new livery for CMB vehicles is in production and should be ready in about a month.
