Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

SIX Sheffield coach operators and British Railways objected before the Yorkshire Licensing Authority, on Monday, to an application by Mrs. Gladys Hibberd, of Sheffield, to operate excursions and tours from the

Travellers Rest," Manor, Sheffield.

The operators were Sheffield United Tours, Ltd., Mr. H. Jackson, Mr. E. Jeffeock, Sansom Bros. (Sheffield), Ltd., Messrs. Law Bros, and Mr. G. E. Whiteley.

Mrs. Hibberd said she had been carrying the Anglers Club from the "Travellers Rest" on private-hire terms. but it was not until she was warned by an official of the Licensing Authority in March that she realized she was wrong in doing so. She decided then to apply for a licence.

For the applicant, Mr. J. Mellor said she had been an operator since 1919, and since 1953, at least, she had been taking members of the club to various points by private hire. She was now applying for permission to operate to 21 points during the coarse fishing season, and to eight for trout fishing.

His client did not wish t9 enter into general competition with other operators, and was prepared to have a clause inserted in the licence restricting her to one vehicle to be used only for the "Travellers Rest" Angling Club.

Replying to Mr. A. Goss for the objecting coach operators, Mrs. Hibberd said she had no wish to undercut other operators. and said she was charging "association prices." She denied charging 8s. to Butterwick, whereas Mr. Jeffcock charged 9s. 3d.

Maj. F. S. Eastwood, the chairman. commented: "The official fare for that journey is 12s. 6d. and that is what Mrs. Hibberd has quoted in her application." Members of the club said in evidence that they did not wish to travel in other than Mrs. Hibberd's coaches.

For the railways, Mr. J. Atkinson said they already provided ample services to the majority of fishing points.

Mr. Goss said that to grant the licence would be providing cover for a person who had been operating illegally, even after being warned, and would draw customers from licensed operators.

Members of the club did not pay subscriptions. so it was open to any person to take advantage of the facilities.

TO TAKE OVER TOURS?

THE North We Licensing Authority is to be asked to grant the North Western Road Car Co., Ltd., the excursion and tour licences at present held by Mayfair Coaches (Manchester), Ltd. The services are run from Heyhead.

J. Abbott and Sons (Blackpool), Ltd., have applied for permission to operate solely the Fleetwood — Manchester service, which they at present work jointly with Lansdowne Motors, Ltd., Fleetwood.
