• The negotiating strength of Wincanton staff based at a dedicated Safeway depot has been boosted following ballot results rejecting a 2.4% offer.
Twenty-five drivers and 21 warehouse staff at Wincanton's Birtley site, Tyne and Wear have voted two to one against settling, says the Transport and General Workers Union.
Road transport commercial officer John Evans welcomes the result: 'We're hopeful we can move the company." The union and company are due to meet today (15 July).
