• Cardiff-based Damdale Enterprises' bid for a five-vehicle/10-trailer licence has been withdrawn at the last moment. Director Robert Salmoni was previously involved with Haul-Tec, which had its licence revoked in January 1992.
The application hearing had been adjourned twice because of pending prosecutions for alleged offences including the use of untaxed and uninsured vehicles.
At a Cardiff public inquiry South Wales Traffic Commissioner John Mervyn Pugh directed the company's interim licence to end immediately. He said that when the phone call withdrawing the application was received the previous day, Damdale had been told to return the licence identity discs and attend the public inquiry Pugh said that if he had the power he would have ordered the company to pay the full costs of processing its application. He directed that traffic examiners should visit Damdale's operating centre to recover the licence discs and that if anyone connected with the company should seek an 0licence the application should be dealt with at public inquiry
