Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

)NDON Transport claims it ill cost 0,500 to keep each of ; SM-type AEC Swift singdeckers on the road when ey start coming up for certification at the end of is year.

LT says this justifies its .5million order for 160 3Tiand Nationals "to increase rvice reliability."

The Greater London Counwill decide on July 20, tether to allow LT to go ead with the order.

Harold Mote, chairman of LC's London Transport mmittee said: "The Leyland itionals that London Transrt already have in service ye proved much more relile than the SM. Buying 160 ore will benefit passengers .ectly in terms of service and mfort.

"Deferring a decision would ly result in an increase in reliability because of the ntinued use of old buses [suitable for London Traffic. ;is is unacceptable to the uncil."

It seems strange that Mr ote should refer to sen-year-old Swifts as old ses when LT are still rating a number of RTs and 4s which are considerably ler and it seems stranger still it SMs should be considered suitable for London traffic len most of them operate in ndon's outer suburbs.

Dther operators have maged to operate AEC Swifts ccessfully and to recertify for considerably less in £9,500, even allowing for lation.
