The dimensions of the van are. externally, 15 ft. 1 in. long, 6 ft. 6 in. wide and 9 ft. 3 in. high, while the internal dimensions, clear of slats, are 9 ft. 10+ in., 6 ft. 3 in. and 7 ft. 3 in. respectively; the Luton head is 3 ft. 4+ in. long and 2 ft. 7+ in. high. Unladen weight with three seats but less fuel, water and spare wheel is 28 cwt. for the petrol model and 294cwt. for the diesel. Payload ratings are 194cwt. and 18+ cwt. for petrol and diesel types respectively.

Mounted on steel outriggers and the existing platform of the Commer chassis/cab, the van has alloy framework and panelling, the latter in I8g. half-hard aluminium; embossed alloy can be specified for an extra £15 (to be set against painting costs). The floor is in Chassisply.

The roof is in translucent glassfibre, on alloy roofsticks, while wooden rubbing stakes are fitted to the interior framework. Nuts, bolts and washers are cadmium plated and rivets are lmex sealed type. Aeon auxiliary rubber springing is fitted to the chassis.

Alternative shutter/tailboard/door openings are available, and a hinged panel can be specified for the rear of the cab so that long items like rolled carpets can be carried.

Examination of a newly completed example with embossed panelling (the bodies are largely prefabricated on jigs) showed this new Luton to be very robustly built despite its low weight, and exceptionally neatly finished. H.B.C.
