"THIS price ring is reacting in a

detrimental fashion to the people of Aberdeen," commented Cllr. R. S. Lennox at last week's meeting of Aberdeen Town Council. The council had been recommended to share the contract for the supply of fuel to the transport department among the Esso, Regent, Scottish Oils and Shell-Mex companies, but it was decided to award it only to the Last-named.

Mr. G. R. McIntosh, treasurer, said that there seemed to be a monopoly in the price of petroleum products and to divide the contract would be helping the monopolists.

ABOUT 100 maintenance engineers employed by Blackpool Transport Department have threatened to strike because of the transport committee's refusal to give them a five-day week. Aid. W. Marshall, chairman of the committee, said a five-day week would cost the undertaking thousands of pounds a year.
