Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

The maximum dimensions of unloaded car transporters are harmonised throughout the EU, but loaded vehicles are still governed by domestic legislation.

The ECG says this represents a major obstacle to free transportation between member states for the transport of new vehicles. Of the 18 million vehicles produced in the EU every year almost 80% are exported. with 55% going to other EU states. The ECG estimates that if the EU implements a maximum size of 4mx18.75m there will be a 36.35% increase in fleets of car transporters. It says a maximum size of 4.20mx20.75m is the minimum that would allow the sector to transport new models efficiently

Environmental impad

The ECG says harmonising the maximum dimensions of loaded car transporters will benefit the environment because fewer transporters will be needed, thereby producing fewer emissions.

Fuel ptices

Figures from the AA show that fuel prices remained stable last month. The North of England has the cheapest diesel in the UK; the most expensive is found in remote corners of Scotland. The International Road Transport Union (IRU) says Luxembourg is the cheapest source of diesel in the EU; outside the EU that accolade gces to Poland.

'Import index

IRU figures show that while UK haulage is growing at a slower rate than its Gross Domestic Product (GDP), it is growing faster than our Continental competitors. Truck registrations are expected to climb this year on both sides of the Channel.
