Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

fears of delay

• Fears have been expressed by some operator representatives that marker plates which become a legal requirement on the rear of heavy vehicles and trailers from November 1 this year will not be readily available in sufficient quantities. Totalling heavy vehicles and trailers, about l+m sets are likely to be required.

The British • Standards Institution confirmed to CM last week that progress in submission of plates for BSI approval had been slow, and in fact up to Tuesday of last week no approval had been given to any manufacturer's product.

Manufacturers have since told CM that samples had been senf to BSI for approval, and were believed to be undergoing weathering trials--which could take some time.

This week the BSI drew attention to the publication of its specification BS AU 152 Rear marking plates for vehicles. This costs 14s (12s to subscribers) from the BSI Sales Branch at 101 /113 Pentonville Rd, London Ni.

A summary of the requirements of the new regulations was published in CM on page 72 of the December 11 1970 issue.
