WE regret to report the deaths of MR. RALPH WILLIAMS, MR, JOSF.PH HARDING, MR. HENRY JOYCE, MR. W. R. SHEPHARD and MR. J. R. CHAPMAN.

Mr. Williams, who was 74, was one of the founder-directors of the United Transport Co., Ltd., formerly the Red and White United Transport Co., Ltd., and its chairman since 1937. He was also chairman of Red and White Services, Ltd., from the date of the company's formation until it was sold to the British Transport Commission.

Mr. Harding was a prominent Oxford haulier until his fleet of 150 vehicles was nationalized. Aged 67, he built up his own business, starting with a horse and cart. The company, Joseph Harding, Ltd., contracted to Morris Motors, Ltd., and the Pressed Steel Co., Ltd.

Director and general manager of the Trinity Garage Co., Ltd., with whom he had been for 28 years, Mr. Joyce died suddenly at the wheel of his car. He was 52.

Mr. Shephard joined the Daimler concern at the beginning of.the century, successively becoming secretary, manager of the Italian works, foreign sales manager, sales manager and director. In 1926, he became managing director of Tilling-Stevens Motors, Ltd., and later of the IVIaudstay Motor Co., Ltd. For a time he was a council member of the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders and at one period president of the Motor Trade Association. He was 74 and had been ill for a long while.

Mr. Chapman, until he retired at the age of 73, was in charge of the Grass*ton depot of the West Yorkshire Road Car Co., Ltd. In the '80s, Mr. Chapman's father ran Royal Mail vans and horsed wagonettes in the district, his son first driving in 1890. The first motors were introduced in 1907 and in 1930 the passenger business was sold to the West Yorkshire Road Car Co., Ltd., and Mr. Chapman then joined the staff.
