Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

THE programme of the annual conference of the Institute of Public Cleansing at Southend-on-Sea includes six papers, a vehicle demonstration and an exhibition of appliances and protective clothing.

On June 15, Mr. C. R. Moss will deliver his presidential address, Mr. F. Flintoff, Southend's director of cleansing, will read a paper on land reclamation, and Mr. B. Wheelhouse, Westminster's deputy director of cleansing, will speak about street cleansing and organization for a ceremonial procession.

The vehicle demonstration will be held in the Kursaal car park on June 16, and on the following day papers' on future possibilities in cleansing will be given by Sir William Darling, M.P. and Mr. F. J. A. Shults, Croydon's deputy cleansing superintendent. Mr. C N_ Graddon, Kensington's cleansirtg superintendent, will speak about the use of water in cleansing.

On June 18, Mr. W. Brockie will read a paper on the industrial' function of waste paper.

The exhibition will be held in the Kursaal on June 15 and 17.

COMPANY WOUND UP

AN order for the compulsory winding-up of Tudor Transport (Wembley), Ltd., on the petition of the Magnet Advertising Co., Ltd., London, W.C.I, was made in the Chancery Division on Monday by Mr. Justice Wynn-Parry. Counsel for the petitioners said they were judgment creditors for £76. Of this, £25 was paid, leaving an unpaid balance of 01.

NO MORE CENSUSES?

I N a memorandum submitted to a Board of Trade committee, the Association of British Chambers of Commerce advise the Government to abandon censuses of production and distribution. Evidence is given of the time and money wasted in compiling information about industry and commerce which is declared to be of little or no practical value.

WOLDS SERVICES INADEQUATE?

PASSENGER services in the Lincolnshire . Wolds were declared at a meeting of the Caistor_ Rural District Council, last week, to be inadequate. It was decided to send a deputation to the Ministry of Transport.

Last month, the council asked the Lincolnshire Road Car Co., Ltd., whether they would object to services being run by other operators.on routes which theyconsidered uneconomic. The company replied that although they were willing to co-operate with local authorities, they were unwilling to abandon any of their rights.

NEW PURCHASE-TAX NOTICE MOTICES Nos. 77B and 77C, which deal with purchase tax on 'motor vehicles, and were issued in 1946 by the Commissioners of Customs and Excise, have been revised and amalgamated as Notice 77B. Copies of the new notice are being distributed to registered purchase-tax traders known to be interested, Additional copies may be obtained on application to the local Collectors of Customs and Excise.

CALL FOR FERRY REOPENING

SPPORT is to . be given by the Central Scotland Area of the Traders' Road Transport Association to a suggestion that the GrantonBurritisland ferry be reopened. It would be additional to the Queensferry service and would operate until the Forth road bridge was built.
