A small number of trucks with digital tachographs are appearing on the used market and buyers are proving to be less frightened of them than might have been expected.

Lee Smith, director of West Thurrock, Essex-based used truck specialist Hanbury Riverside, says: "We've sold one or two, and although the customers concerned would probably have preferred analogues, they weren't put off by the trucks having digital tachos.

"What's more, they paid slightly more than they would have for a truck with an analogue tacho — but they were of course a little younger than the youngest analogue vehicle," he says.

Smith is finding there is huge demand for late-plate Euro-3 trucks: "We're selling them as soon as they roll through the gate,' he reports. "What's more, far from dropping in the first few weeks of the year, prices have stayed firm.'
