Web editor, Roadtransport.com

What got you started in transport? I come from a succession of engineers and our family is madkeen on cars and motorbikes, so perhaps it was inevitable that I would study mechanical engineering; 15 years ago I saw a job advert asking for a technical writer on Commercial Mctorand I've been here ever since.

What do you lovedhate about it? I love he hardware, at course, and the sheer passion and ingenuity of the people in the transport industry; I hate the negative. sneering attitude that many people have towards the industry and the shoddy operators who fuel that attitude.

What's your poison?

Good cider if it's available-good biter or lager if it's not. Life's too short to drink rubbish_ Luckily, it's hard to find truly bad Scotch.

How do you relax?

Being an amateurish woodworker or mechanic if there's time (not a lot of that at the moment), more often, giving my daughter her late-night feed and drifting off to sleep at the same time. What was the last CD you bought? Two, actually French organ music from NOtre Dame, and Costelb Music by the Fratellis.

Where was your last holiday? Skiing in the French Alps-a reminder that life can be very good indeed.

Football man's game or overhyped nonsense?

Too much of the latter, I'm afraid. I'll still cheer England/Scotland/Wales or, though...

Does your heart lie North or South? I've lived in places from Cornwall to Lincolnshire, and I'm half Scots. I feel at home pretty much anywhere.

Do you have any ambitions left? ThereSthe obviousoneto make Roadtransportcom a roaring success. i'd also liketo write a novel I'd be happy to read, and realty good dining-room table. Actually, a good night's sleep would be nice...

What makes you happiest in life? Making my children laugh. Intact more often than not I just make my wife laugh.
