Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

THE PHENOMENON of CLOD (centre lane-only drivers) is caused by the lack of training that learner drivers receive in the UK. In Germany and other European countries all learner drivers must complete a minimum number of hours on the autobahn/ motorway.

They also have to attend classroom sessions on various subjects and be capable of identifying main engine components, basic maintenance, including wheel changing and, most importaraly, basic first aid.

The law in Germany states that drivers must return to the lane they were in previously after completing an overtaking manoeuvre.

We are told that speed kills, and the fact that you are five times more likely to be killed on the autobahn and other German roads than you are in the UK brings that into perspective. I have German friends who avoid the autobahn where possible due to the excessive speeds that some Germans are willing to kill themselves and others for.

Driving a truck in Germany means you are more than likely to be confined to the inside lane of the autobahn between 6am and 8prn and cannot possibly judge what an appropriate speed would be.

One thing the Germans have got right is how to deal with road traffic accidents. The autobahn polizei make sure that the dead go in body bags and the injured go to hospital. They don't close the motorway for the day and start making funny-coloured chalk marks all over the carriageway.
