I.F.YEAND has begun 1986 with a leading 16.9 per cent share of the truck market, according to figures released as we closed for press on l'uesday.
According to the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders, registrations of trucks over 3.5 tonnes last month fell from 4,565 in January 1985 to 4,415, but Leyland increased its figure from 7115 to 748 vehicles.
Not only is this unusual — Ford clung on to market leadership last year — but the first of around 600 Volkswagen LT45 vans for TNT's newspaper and parcel delivery work have shot MAN-VW's January figure up from 133 in 1985 to 526. a rise from 12th to second place. Its market share is up from 2.9 per cent to 11.9 per cent.
