NOT every operator needs to run at maximum gross vehicle weights. With these hauliers in mind, DaytonWalther (09285-66533) has extended its down-plating option range to include 25, 26, 29 and 31-tonne applications.

According to the Runcornbased company, hauliers with 32-tonne tractive units with tandem-axle trailers whose loads bulk out below the maximum gross combination weight can save considerable sums by down plating.

Down plating to 31-tonnes cuts a year's vehicle excise duty by 070, by 1:1,240 at 29 tonnes, 0,580 at 26 tonnes and by i:1,670 at 25 tonnes.

To achieve the lower plated weight on the tractive unit, Dayton-Walther alters the specification of the fifth-wheel and subframe securing bolts. The conversion is approved by the Department of Transport as a Notifiable Alteration.
