Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

GKN Axles has developed its first 11-tonne single-reductic drive axle, the 1)35(1, which is suitable for buses coaches al top-weight tractive units. Hitherto, the only GKN axle at this weight was the 1)85 hi reduction model. This will continue in production at GKN Kirkstall, Leeds plant where the new model is also to be maim fact ured.

Demand for single-reduction drive axles has increased enĀ° mously recently, particularly from the growing number of tra five unit manufacturers using low-speed engines which requi rear axle ratios of between 3 and 3.5:1 to maintain the necessal geared speed. There are six ratio options for the 1)350's spiral bevel differei tial, from 3.36:1 to 5.42:1.

The 1)350 is fitted as standard with G1< N's own lightweig. ti-cam brakes, and the latest Timken tapered roller hub beariin which require no free play adjustment after assembly.

An air-operated differential lock is optional. At a weight of 670kg, including brake drums, the 1)350 about 15kg lighter than an equivalent 1)85 axle.
