• Transport minister Mike Penning visited Howard Tenens’ gas refuelling site in South Ockendon, Essex, where he learned about the irm’s low-carbon strategy, including a dual-fuel leet and the installation of three compressed natural gas (CNG) stations. Penning said: “It is an honour to be here, not only in the front line of the haulage industry, but to hear about the innovations in fuel and vehicle technology.” Howard Tenens’ refuelling stations are open to hauliers wanting to trial CNG without infrastructure costs.

• Deputy prime minister Nick Clegg visited the Mersey Multimodal Gateway in Widnes, home to the Stobart Park freight facility, as part of a tour of Regional Growth Fund-supported projects in the North West. “I want the North West to be a place where people make things again, where iconic businesses like Stobart can thrive,” he said.
